Obituary for John Proietti (Giovanni)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John (Giovanni) Proietti on Friday June 17, 2016 at the age of 81, after a short but courageous battle with cancer at the Sault Area Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband and best friend to Rose Marie (nee Suraci) for over 57 years. Cherished father and role model to Christine (Frank), Dominic (Nadine) and Nancy (Von). Fondly remembered by Kristen Marson. Son of the late Domenico and Antonietta (nee Merolla) Proietti. Loving brother of the late Antonio (late Alfonsina), the late Romolo (late Maria), the late Giuseppe, the late Alberto and the late Anna Tira. Special son-in-law to the late Stefano and Rosina Suraci. He is survived by his brother-in-law Steve Suraci and sisters-in-law Emily Suraci and Virginia Suraci. Predeceased by Minnie Calic (Paul), Angeline Maxwell (Fred), Albert Suraci, Joseph Suraci and Lillian Suraci. Special uncle to Dolores and Joe Proeitti. He is survived by many loving nieces and nephews. John immigrated to Canada in 1953 from Mignano Monte Lungo, Caserta Italy and shortly thereafter met the love of his life Rose Marie. He was a gentle, kind and gracious man who had a passion to live his life to the fullest. He loved and was loved by all those who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be greatly missed. He touched the hearts of many and will be greatly missed by all. He had a passion for his garden, especially his tomato plants, wine making and good homemade Italian food which he loved to make. Family and Friends may call at O’Sullivan Funeral Home (Corner of Cathcart and St. James St.) on Tuesday June 21st, 2016 from 10:00am until time of service in the chapel at 1:00pm, with Father Alex Saurianthadathil officiating. Entombment in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery to follow. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the ICU staff at the Sault Area Hospital, with a special thanks to Carissa, Amanda, Justine and Natalie. With John’s light hearted wit and humour, he was still able to make everyone smile in his final days as he did his whole life. A special thank you from the family to the neighbors for their support, encouragement and thoughtfulness during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Sault Area Hospital Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family.
