Obituary for Caroline Blanche McGrayne

Peacefully on January 21, 2014, at the F.J. Davey Home, surrounded by her three daughters, Caroline McGrayne , passed into the arms of her savior, Jesus Christ , to tend to his garden. There she was reunited with the "love of her life", her late husband, Harold Nelson McGrayne and her first husband, Ernest Emile Belanger. Mom was the inspiration and foundation that kept our family together. Best friend and adored mother of Colleen Hocking (Tony). Beloved mother of Mary Ann (Louise) McGuire (Tom), Veronica Lukkarila (Simo), Phillina Kohlbacher (the late Herman), Harold McGrayne Jr., Clarence (Les) McGrayne (Joanne), Philip Belanger (Maxine), the late John Belanger (Doris), the late David Belanger (Doris), and mother of Ernest Belanger Jr. Daughter of the late James and Blanche Desmarais and sister of Adele Beckerton (Alvin), the late Marie Lea MacDonald (late Alan), the late Jacqueline Beckerton (late Ivan), Clovis Desmarais (the late Betty), Carmel Diotte (the late Romeo), and James Desmarais (Shirley). Grandmother of 26and great grandmother of 42, great great grandmother of 2. Aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. A friend to many. Caroline was a devout Catholic and took pride in being a member of the Catholic Women's League for over 81 years. Caroline along with her husband Harold were instrumental in helping to raise money for the creation of St. Veronica's School in the 1950s. Caroline loved to sing, and took great joy in volunteering her time to participate in the St. Veronica and St Gerard Majella Parish Choirs. Gardening was her passion and she took great pride in her home and the beauty that her flowers provided. She was a gentle, kind, giving person who always opened her heart and home to everyone. . Her life was not an easy one, being a widow with 5 children at the young age of 25, however, with her unrelenting faith in God, her sheer determination and a great sense of humour, she was able to survive and prosper against all odds. She was a remarkable role model to her children, was forgiving and tolerant and portrayed remarkable strength and immense faith in God that provided her with an inner peace. She never questioned "why", but rather accepted her role in life and was a great teacher. Through her example of great kindness, patience and acceptance her children gained a wonderful gift; namely the power of love and the insight into what often cannot be explained. Mom's favorite saying was "Don't worry. Leave it in God's hands" There is no doubt God's garden will be a more beautiful place with Mom tending to it. "JeT'aime Mama". Her family would like to thank Dr. Rossi for her years of care, as well as the staff of Pathways Retirement Home. A special thank you goes out to Janice Hodson, Administrator of the F.J. Davey Home who worked tirelessly to ensure that Mom's needs were met. Thanks also to Dr. Frank Ianni, Fran Connelly, Elizabeth Heal, Cindy and the other nursing staff, Erica and the PSWs of Cedar One and Two, especially Heather, Sherri, Kayla, Barb and Cheryl. Also to Bonnie Hart, Christine Quinlan and all those who through gentle acts and kind words made Mom's remaining days more comfortable.
