Obituary for Julia Sophia Thomas (Lesell)

Julia, a long-time resident of Wawa and Sault Ste Marie, passed away Tuesday September 13th, 2016 at the Ontario Finnish Rest Home. Born in 1924 in Sioux Lookout ON to, Julia met her late husband, Joseph Edward in Winnipeg, MB after WWII and moved to Portage La Prairie, MB where their eldest daughter, Marilyn (late Garfy) was born. They moved to Wawa, ON where they had 3 more children, Joanne (Paul), Laurie and the late John. There, Julia ran a restaurant which was later reconstructed into a laundromat until Joe retired from Algoma Ore and they moved to the Sault. Julia’s passion was her family and she loved to cook for everyone. Her enjoyment was gardening. She could bring any plant back from the dead and have them grow and flourish. She had a joyful laugh, a contagious smile and a mischievous grin. She is survived by her daughters Marilyn, Joanne and Laurie, grandchildren Doris (Bruce), Victoria (Len), Tammy (Chris), Debbie (Brian), Tom, Rhawnie and Rianne (Adrian). Great grandchildren Jason, Jessica, Kendra, Mike, Macey, Ehmber, Sophia, Trysten, late Kylie, Taylor, Julia and Lily step great grandchildren Isabelle and Olivia. Predeceased by her parents John and Edith Lacelle. Sister of Laura Bjarnason (late Bob) and Eileen Smith (Barry). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in her memory. At Julia’s request cremation has taken place. A private family memorial will take place at a later date.
