Obituary for Bill Bahry

BAHRY, Bill –

On Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at the Sault Area Hospital, William Frederic Bahry “Bill”, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the age of 85.

Bill was born on February 14, 1938, to the late Paul and Anna Bahry. Survived by his cherished wife of over 60 years, Pat Bahry. Adored father of Cheryl Gauthier (Luc), Rob Bahry and Kim Smith-Bahry. Loving grandfather of Richard Gauthier (Randee), Maddy and Fred Bahry. Special great grandfather of Lilly Bahry. Dear brother of Phyllis Whalen (late George, Dieter), Wayne Bahry (Margaret), the late Darlene Artuso, Warren Bahry and Paulette McFadden. Brother-in-law of Donna Hellinger (Bob) and Jan Yeaman. Bill will be remembered by many nieces and nephews.

Bill had a deep desire to help people whether it was through his work or personal life. He volunteered with the Elks for many years. Bill was the driver coordinator and made frequent weekly trips to Sudbury for oncology patients. He will always be remembered for his kindness and the smile on his face.

Bill enjoyed his full-time career at Algoma Steel where he worked many jobs; when he wasn’t at work, and into his retirement, he was an avid fisherman. If he wasn’t on the lake, he was with his family. He thrived watching his grandchildren grow.

Bill enjoyed his adventures abroad, creating memories he would share with those close to him. He was a gifted handy-man and blessed those around him with his ability to repair or build almost anything.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the wonderful staff at the FJ Davey Home on Cedar 3 for your exceptional care of Bill. To Dr. Meligrana and the staff at the Sault Area Hospital on 3C, thank you for supporting Bill and our family by always keeping us informed and being there for Bill in his final days.

As per Bill’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held on Friday, March 17th from 6 to 8PM at the Elks Lodge (216 Bay Street, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario). Memorial donations made to ARCH would be greatly appreciated by the family (payable by cheque or online using the link below).
