Obituary for Terry Pountney

POUNTNEY, Terrance Harold May 18, 1945-June 6, 2020.

We are with heavy hearts to announce that on June 6, 2020, at the age of 76, Terry Pountney of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side, after a long battle with cancer. He will be missed by his lifelong partner and love of his life, Yvonne (Marchioni) Pountney for 55 years. Beloved father to Donna (Ron) Chenier of Elliot Lake, ON, John (Maripe) Pountney of Kingston, ON & Tina Pountney of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. He was cherished by his grandchildren; Brittany, Krystal Pountney & Jennifer (Pete) Hocken all of Sault Ste. Marie, ON, Roddy of Elliot Lake, ON and Brett & Anika Siesel of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Step grandchildren Jenny (Rob) Evershed, Michelle (Erin) Chenier and Patrick Chenier. Honored great-grandfather of Nicholas, Devon, & Alyssa Major, Kaithlyn & Matthew Pountney and Elizabeth & Cassandra Hocken all of Sault Ste Marie, ON. Step great-grandfather to William Berube, Destiny & Alex Evershed, Cody, Kayla and Taylor Chenier. Terry was born in Chapleau, Ontario to the late George & Genevieve (Woods) Pountney. Terry is survived by his sister Ethel (Edgar) Comeau of Sault Ste. Marie, his brothers Robert (Marg) Pountney of Renfrew, ON, Lawrence Pountney of Sault Ste. Marie, ON and predeceased by his brother Ronald (Joan) Pountney of Arnprior, ON. Brother-in-law of Gladys (Rini) Goossens of Alberta, John (Cathy) Marchioni of Alberta and Rick (Kaye) Marchioni of New Brunswick. He will be missed by his many special nieces, nephews & cousins near to his heart. He worked many years at Soo Foundry as Sales Manager, known for his ability to negotiate with many local companies over the years. He was an avid bowler and high scorer over his many years doing what he loved. He enjoyed the game of golf and spending time with his brother Larry. He had a close & special longtime friends Ian & Sandy Johnson, not to mention the many special friends & coworkers over the years. He had a generous heart & liked to give to others without expecting anything in return. The family of Terry wish to extend our sincere thanks to the Palliative Care Team at the Sault Area Hospital, Dr. Mary Wilson, Dr. Buehner & Dr. O’Brien for keeping him comfortable at home, to his special nurses Susan & Susie, and staff who took care of him in his last days. A private viewing for immediate family was held at O’Sullivan Funeral Home June 7, 2020 in Sault Ste. Marie, ON. Due to extended family and current situation, we will have a celebration of life at a later date. Donations can be made to the Sault Area Hospital Cancer Care Fund or to the Canadian Cancer Society
