Obituary for Ruth Elisabeth Lenius (Dillen)

An angel from earth has risen to take her place in heaven.

The Dillen family is saddened to announce that Ruth Elisabeth Lenius (nee Dillen) passed away peacefully on October 27, 2023, at the Sault Area Hospital. A beloved mother, wife, sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to many.

Ruth was born in Cutler on February 21, 1940, and grew up in Spanish. She was the eldest daughter of the late Margaret (nee McLeod) and Frederick Dillen, being the second oldest in a family of 14 consisting of 9 sisters and 4 brothers.

Ruth brought so much life, love, and laughter to her large and loving family. She made the best of any situation with strength, care, and stability. Ruth lived in Spanish until she met her now late husband Allen Lenius. They relocated to Essex, Ontario for 31 years before moved back to the north when Allen retired from Chrysler in Windsor. She enjoyed playing cards, baking, travelling, and visiting friends and family. Her greatest joy were her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is the cherished Mother of Keith (Albena) of Sudbury, Randy (Kathy) of Windsor, Richard (Isla) of Sault Ste. Marie and Jeff of Essex.

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her sisters Beverly Bratko and Marjorie Desmarais, both of Massey, as well as her brothers Ken of Cutler, Ernie of Massey, and Charlie of Spanish. Ruth will lovingly be missed by her surviving siblings; Susan, Patricia (Paul), Keith (Mary), Joyce, Edith (Stu), Pauline, Jeannie (Wade) and Sandra, as well as by her grandchildren; Jolene, Errol, Landon, Todd, Derrick, Lindsy, Johnathan, Michael, Kyla, and Kelly, and her great grandchildren; Darla, Hendrick, Violet, Cooper, Keith “Boomer”, Gavin, Victoria, Hailey, Dylan, Justin, Jeremy, Mathew, Michelle, Delaney, Mason, Isabella, Cohen and Aubrey.

Ruth also had the love and respect of many nieces and nephews; Linda Mansley of Tillsonburg and Diane Metivier of Guelph often referred to her as their second Mom. She was also a second Mom and treasured friend to Nancy Greenaway of Essex.

Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society (payable online https://cancer.ca/en/ or by cheque).
