Obituary for Ronald Dénommé

Our family is saddened to announce the unexpected passing of our beloved husband and father, Ronald Dénommé at home on May 13, 2022, in his 82nd year. Survived by his loving wife, Mary (nee Brooks). Father of Ronald (Julie), Daniel (Kristine) and Darlene Weber (Robert). Devoted grandfather to Stephanie Esson (Daniel), Rebecca Weber, Sarah VanderMost (Joshua) and Nicole, David, and Philipe Dénommé. Great grandfather to Hannah, Chad, Emilia, Naarah and Violet. Son of the late Osias Dénommé and Ida Lafleur. Predeceased by brothers Raymond Dénommé (Madeline) and Norman Lafleur (late Donna) and survived by his siblings Richard Lafleur (late Beverley), Leo Lafleur and Louise Lyons (Doug). Son in law of the late Richard and Christina Brooks. Brother in law of the late Richard Brooks (late Marion), late Dolores Mulligan (Bill), Joyce St. Jean (late Ernest), Earl Brooks (Audrey) and the late Billy Brooks. Uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Dad was born June 5, 1940, and was raised in the Flour Mill in Sudbury, Ontario. He met and married the love of his life, Mary, on September 5, 1960, in Lively, Ontario. Together, they went on to raise three children. He was employed by INCO as a miner in Creighton Mine for over 30 years and during that time he was also heavily involved in coaching his sons in Walden Minor Hockey.

One of his favourite pastimes was cruising, driving around in his car with the windows down listening to fifties music. He was still doing this last week. He also loved working on his 65 Chevy SS, playing his guitar, camping at Fairbanks Provincial Park, cheering for the Montreal Canadiens, barbecuing for and entertaining family and friends. His presence was larger than life. He was a friend to many, especially to Rob Lehman, who he viewed as a son.

Ron and Mary moved to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario in 2001. In his retirement, he worked as a groundskeeper at Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish for five years. His faith was always important to him. In his later years, he often attended daily mass at Precious Blood Cathedral.

A private family visitation will take place at O’Sullivan Funeral Home and a Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish (114 MacDonald Ave, SSM) on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at 11:30 am.

A special thank you to the first responders for their care and compassion shown to Ron and his family. In lieu of donations, masses said for Ron would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, they’ll all come to see me
In the shade of that old oak tree
As they lay me
‘Neath the green, green grass of home
