Obituary for Rodger Wilfred Bedard

February 24, 1940 - January 11, 2023

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Rodger in his 82nd year. Beloved husband to June (nee Barfoot) of 51 years. Father to Tracey (Rob), Toni (Rod), Heather (Lorne), Susan (Ray), Randy (Susan) and the late Shelley (Paul). Grandpa to Cody, Amber (Derrick), Haley (Donato), Jack (Kyla), Darian (Randi), Tristan, Jenny, Josh and Jonathon. Great Grandpa to Aili and Amelia. Son of Beatrice (nee Bedard) Mihelic. Brother to the late Anne (Joe), late Nicholas (Patti), and Leslie (Erma). Son-in-law to the late Earl and Amy Barfoot. Brother-in-law to the late Eileen (late Cliff), Frieda (late Archie), late Glen (Eleanor) and late Carl (late Grace). Rodger is a much-loved nephew of Marjorie Mcphee, and a loved Uncle to many nieces and nephews and many cousins. Rodger will be greatly missed by his little buddy Dexter who he loved so much.

Rodger always made sure that everyone knew that family meant everything to him and always kept the door open and welcomed anyone who would stop by. He was always hosting many meals to family and friends alike and will be remembered for his love of cooking. He loved spending time at the lake, whether it be Diamond, Patton, Stuart or Laughing where he enjoyed sitting around a bonfire and having drinks while surrounded by family and friends. Here he was able to pass on his knowledge and love of fishing with anyone that showed an interest. He had many other interests that he will be fondly remembered for such as his gardening and making maple syrup.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Sarah, his PSW, that he enjoyed talking to while she cared for him at home. To The Emergency Department and 3B Staff and Physicians that took amazing care of Rodger while in their care. A Special Thank You to Dr Sharp who did everything she possibly could to keep him as comfortable as possible during his final days. All of the care and compassion will be remembered always.

Family and friends are invited to O’Sullivan Funeral Home for visitation on Monday January 16, 2023, from 11:00am until the time of the service in the chapel at 2:00pm, with Pastor Brad Mittleholtz officiating.

In honour of Rodger, donations can be made to the Sault Area Hospital Palliative Care Fund (https://www.sahfoundation.com) and for his love of his puppy and furry family donations to the Humane Society (https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/12360?v1=true) would be greatly appreciated
