Obituary for Robert Carl Marriott

MARRIOTT, Robert “Bob” Carl –

On Monday May 30th, 2022, in his 79th year, Bob Marriott loving husband and father, peacefully entered the presence of the Lord.

Bob was born on June 7th, 1943, in Toronto, to Ronald and Lillian Marriott. In his youth he was a standout hockey player in the Detroit Red Wings farm system. In 1961 he moved to the Soo and began working at Algoma Steel where he was employed as a brakeman and engineer for the next 42 years. On October 18th, 1968, he married Janice Zeppa. Together they raised two sons, John and Andrew. In 1974, Bob became a follower of Jesus Christ and began attending Bethel Bible Chapel.

Bob was the embodiment of humility, kindness, and sincerity. He never sought fame or great wealth, but he accomplished something far greater; he lived up to the true measure of a man, being a faithful husband and loving father. He was the best example of both.

Bob’s genuineness, sense of humor and good nature endeared him to everyone. And he never met a person he couldn’t strike up a conversation with. He was known for being a hard worker, thoroughness (especially when it came to shoveling the driveway), and a willingness to help out behind the scenes. He enjoyed attending airshows with his friends Graham and Benny and collecting World War II diecast planes. Bob liked to travel and over the years he and Janice were fortunate to take many trips together. He was beloved by his grandchildren who called him “Bobby” and he was equally enamored with them. Despite having cancer for the last 10 years, he never complained or had a bad word to say about anyone. Well, except for the Toronto Maple Leafs. But seriously, as a lifelong fan can you blame him?

Bob was preceded in death by his father, Ron, and his mother, Lillian. He is survived by his wife Janice, sons, John (Nancy) and Andrew (Jessica), sister Nancy Mane (late Gus), grandchildren Cody, Moriah, Vivienne and George, nieces Kathy Lake-Maxon, Lisa Vine, and nephew Steven Mane.

Special thanks to Dr. Hill and Dr. Shafiee who cared so well for Bob over the last ten years. He really liked you guys.

We invite all of Bob’s friends to join us for a come-and-go celebration of his life, Saturday June 11th, 2022, at Bethel Bible Chapel (686 Black Road, Sault Ste. Marie, ON) from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm. Refreshments will be provided.

In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made in Bob’s name to Camp Aush-Bik-Koong by following the link below. Arrangements entrusted to O’Sullivan Funeral Home.
