Obituary for Richard Edwin Lake

Lake, Richard-
Passed away peacefully at Sault Area Hospital just shy of his 79th birthday. He was the beloved husband and best friend of Sandra fore 56 years. Lovingly remembered by his daughters Lisa Vine (Glen) and Kathy Lake (Greg Maxon). Cherished papa of Benjamin Vine and Jaidyn Vine. Beloved brother of Audrey Greenwood (late Roy), late Joyce Rains (late Roland), late Alma Turco (Vince) and the late Edwin Lake. Dear brother in law of Janice Marriott (Robert). A private celebration for Richard will be held at a later date.
Richard was a proud tradesman and was a welder/fitter at Algoma Steel until his retirement. Richard was well known in the purebred dog breeding, handling and show circuits. Having started in purebred dogs in 1967 breeding Pomerianans and then in 1975 developing a passion for the Bouvier des Flandres breed. Under the Sanrick Kennel name, Richard produced over 50 champion dogs and many more loving family pets. Richard’s passion for purebred dogs led to him becoming a professional dog handler. For over 20 years, he traveled to dog shows with his family through-out Canada and the United States. He was well known for showing English Setters, Irish Setters, Springer Spaniels, Norweign Elkhounds, Newfoundlands and Corgis. As his experience, knowledge and eye for excellence in breeding progressed he took on his next challenge and successfully completed the required training to became a licensed judge with the Canadian Kennel Club. This quickly became his new love, as he got to judge and see thousands of exciting young dogs and emerging stars. He also got to stay connected with the many friendships he had developed over the years. During all of this Richard started a new hobby in wood working and created many wooden dog crates and tack boxes that are still in use today. Richard was known as a social person always chatting with people where ever he went. He will be forever remembered as a man with “always a story, always a smile, and always a laugh.” Memorial donations to ARCH would be appreciated. The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors on 3B for their care and compassion. Arrangements entrusted to O'Sullivan Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 215 St. James St, 705-759-8456.
