Obituary for Raymond Henry McBride
(March 2, 1939-November 2, 2022)
Passed away peacefully at the FJ Davey Home on November 2, 2022 at the age of 83.
Beloved husband of Sharon McBride. Loving father of Catherine (Howard Payne) McBride, Rae Corbett, Ralph (Rachel) McBride, Patti (Mike) Abbott, Joyce (Brian) De Forest and Susan (Les) Schrik.
Grandpa of Brianna, Alysha, Riley, Riston and several other grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Brother to the late George (Donna) McBride, Jack (Mary) McBride, Marie (Sam) Templeton, and Donald (Stephanie) McBride and the late Jean McBride.
Ray was born in Toronto ON to the late Clarence & Ruby (Evans) McBride.
Ray will be fondly remembered as the “Rabbit”. The man who would die working. He spent his careers showing up early, dabbling in almost everything, from well drilling, township maintenance, trucking broker, livestock and feed services, float operator for Gilbertson's, snow plowing for several island residents, the Royal Canadian Legion in Richards Landing and land plowing for many local farmers. One thing that stands out, Rabbit's ability to make anything out of steel.
Rabbit was always ready to lend a helping hand day or night. In his younger days, Rabbit was also a competitive snowmobile racer, but that almost ended badly. He was down but not out. Another close call, a hunting trip where the beaver dam sent him overboard.
Family and friends are invited to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 374 Richard’s Landing (1534 10th Side Rd.) on Sunday November 6, 2022, from 1:00pm-3:30pm. A graveside service will be held at St. Joseph Township Cemetery to follow at 4:00pm.
