Obituary for Mary Lou Suzanne Turgeon (Piche)

February 1, 1949 – October 24, 2023

Our dear mother Mary Lou Turgeon (nee Piche), passed away peacefully with family by her side at the Sault Area Hospital after a brave, courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Predeceased by her husband Normand of 51 years and leaving behind her three daughters Patricia (Tim), Melinda (Jason), Sandra (Cory), her grandchildren Laurelle and Roc Vallee, step grandchild Gibson and her precious baby dogs Taffy and the late Coco.

Mary Lou was born in Blind River. She was the daughter of the late Gaston “Gus” Piche and late Marilyn Laplante, dear sister to the late Cheryl Bernard, Pam Hachez, Brenda Piche, Pete Piche, Julie Piche, Mark Piche, and Mike Piche. She will be fondly remembered by her many aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Mom always had a song lyric to fit any situation. She had a quick wit and lovely sense of humour. She was a problem solver and always knew the right thing to say and the right advice to give. Family came first and she always made sure that every birthday and special occasion was given the celebration it deserved.

We would like to thank Dr. Silvana Spadafora, nurse Louise, and Dr. Nicki Apostle for their kindness and compassion, the emergency room nurses and doctors, and the Bayshore nurses who briefly cared for mom. We would also like to thank Dr. Chaya Shwaartz at UHN for giving us two more happy years with our mom.

At Mary Lou’s request, cremation has taken place and there will be no service, a small private family celebration will be held at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation Fund (payable online https://thepmcf.ca/donate/ or by cheque).
