Obituary for Catherine Chartrand

With broken hearts, we announce the passing of our beautiful mother, Catherine Chartrand. Surrounded by family, Cathy joined her Romeo and their baby daughter on Wednesday February 15th, 2023.

Loving wife to the late Romeo Chartrand for 53 years. Devoted mother to Jimmy Chartrand (Susan), Kathleen Hicks (Ted), and Danny Chartrand. Adoring Meamea to Amanda Moss (Brent), Abigail Hicks, step-grandmother to Pamela Rayment (Jeremy) and Patricia Pretty. Proud great Meamea of Tait Moss and Evan Moss, and step-great-grandmother to Logan Rayment. Daughter of the late William Chevrier Sr. and Eva Tait. Cathy will be joining her late brothers William Chevrier Jr. and James Chevrier. She will be forever missed by her dear sister Marion Heaney (Fred). Cathy made many special connections throughout her 88 years and will be remembered by many nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors.

Cathy was equally kind to everyone who crossed her path and made everyone she met feel special. She loved to remember and share stories about her growing up years in the Ottawa Valley. As a young woman living in Sault Ste. Marie, she fell in love with Romeo, and together they shared a passionate romance that continued to her last breath. Cathy cherished being a mother and loved her children unconditionally. Nothing however, matched her fondness for her granddaughters and great grandsons. She was a Meamea they will love forever. Cathy spent her working years at Sears and took great pride in her job. She was dearly valued by her coworkers. Some of her most favorite days were spent up the 129 highway with Rose & Jerry, Aurel & Alice, and Clark & Sandra. It is hard to believe she is no longer with us; we feel so blessed and honored that she was such an integral part of our family. A heartfelt thank you to the amazing healthcare family of the 3rd floor C wing, at the Sault Area Hospital. You all made Cathy’s final days peaceful.

Cathy will be honored on May 13th, the weekend of her 89th birthday.
Family and friends are invited to visit O’Sullivan Funeral Home from 12:00p:m-1:00pm. A Memorial Service will be held in the chapel at 1:00pm, with Father Jeff Shannon officiating, followed by inurnment in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. A gathering will follow at the Moose Hall (Trunk Rd.).

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Cathy’s honor, to Diabetes Canada.

Hurting runs off my shoulders
How can I hurt when holding you.”
