Obituary for Marilyn Anne Seccariccia (Walker)

With all of the grace and dignity in which she lived her life, surrounded by the people who loved her unconditionally, on Monday, April 18th, 2022, our beloved wife and Mom gained her angel wings. Marilyn lived a life of giving, even after experiencing life-changing events herself – after losing her own father at the tender age of 13, she raised her younger brothers and sisters while her own mother worked to provide. She went on to marry the love of her life, Richard Seccariccia, in 1973 then spent the next 48 years as his best friend, golf partner and wife.
Together, they had two wonderful daughters, Melissa Bennett (Decarus) and Kristy Hammond (Steve) who learned so much about strength from her. At 41, she experienced a setback when she found out about the inherited kidney disease that took her father at such a young age. Her amazing husband donated his kidney to ensure they could have many more years to enjoy together. They became fundraisers for the kidney foundation and later helped her other siblings that ended up with the same disease through their diagnoses and transplants. Marilyn worked for the City of Sault Ste. Marie until 2007, when she retired to find out her next diagnosis of early onset dementia. Again, she handled it with all of the grace we’ve known her for and focused on making the most of her time with golf and her family (even winning the club championship of her women’s golf league!). As time went on and the disease progressed, she was so well taken care of by her loving husband who showed reserves of strength that he didn’t even know he had. There was never going to be enough time, but in her final day, she was surrounded by the love of her family as we ensured her that we’d always miss her, but we’d be ok and carry on her legacy as she peacefully transitioned.
Marilyn was predeceased by her mother, Laura Anne Ryan, her father, Conley Walker, and her older brother Clayton Walker. She is survived by her brothers Ron (Susan) and Kenneth Walker (Connie) and her sisters, Wendy Lewis (Marty) and Kim Zimmerman (Christopher) and many nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by her long time women’s golf friends and their partners.
In her final days, Marilyn was so well taken care of by the nurses at Sault Area Hospital, that we extend our sincere thanks especially to Nikki and Rhonda who worked hard to ensure that even during a pandemic, her immediate family was able to be by her side.
As per Marilyn’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family graveside service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sault Area Hospital Complex Continuing Care Fund or the Sault Area Hospital Renal Care Fund (payable online https://www.sahfoundation.com or by cheque).
Marilyn will be missed beyond measure but never forgotten.
