Obituary for John Michael Alexander Hayes-Sheen

“On February 12, 1930 the world became a better place… I was born” These tongue-in-check words were the initial entry in John’s limited recollections of his past while in the early stages of Alzheimer’s Disease… a seemingly bold statement from a man of most humble disposition. Our husband, brother, father and papa was always a gentleman and a man of substance. Principled. Intelligent, loyal and honest. His word was as valid as any contract ever written.
Family was a paramount of importance and John provided enduring support and encouragement to us all. He instilled in his four daughters the principles that he lived by and taught them that they could be and do anything in life.
It is therefore with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of John into the hands of our Lord on September 27, 2021 in his 92nd year. Left to cherish memories of a life of well lived is his beloved wife of 67 years, Alice (nee Deschenes). Cherished father to Janet (Thom) Ambeault, Lorie (Steve) Allen, Alison (Terry) Miskimin and the late Marlene Hayes-Sheen. Papa to Megan (Tom) Katagis, John Ambeault, Andrew Allen, Stephanie Allen (Alex Richard), Mathew Miskimin and Julia Miskimin (Jude Miller). Special great grandfather to Macy, Layla and Kiera. Brother to Freida (late Sam) Sanzosti.
Predeceased by his parents Thomas and Edith (nee Heward) Hayes-Sheen. Brothers Charles (late Mary), Thomas (Kathleen) and Patrick (Margaret). Sisters Joan (late Mike) Palamarchuk and Barbara (late Ron) Grimson.
Our family would like to extend a heart felt thank you to the entire staff at Maple View Extendicare – Tunnel Lake for their care and compassion over the past four years.
A private family service will be held following cremation. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Sault Ste Marie would be appreciated by the family.
