Obituary for Janice Irene Good (Bird)

Good, Janice Irene (nee Bird)-

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Jan Good, of Desbarats, at the age of 73 years.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 51 years, Geoff; children Colin (Regina), Kevin (Anne), and honourary daughter Anne Marie (Phil); grandchildren Lochlyn, Emma, Tamara, and Sergio; two great-grandchildren; brother John (Freda) Bird; as well as numerous relatives and friends. She will be deeply missed by her companion and faithful friend, Kai.

Born in London, England in 1946, Jan distinguished herself by joining the British Territorial Army and becoming one of only two women at the time to train as a parachutist. She moved to Canada in 1966 where she was assigned a rank of Second Lieutenant in the Canadian Armed Forces and served as an instructor with the Sea Cadets. Jan met the love of her life, and fellow Englishman, Geoffrey Good, in Cobourg, Ontario and was married in 1969. She kept busy with her family on trips across the country, camping and canoeing, and was most proud of her achievement as a dog obedience trainer for 20 years. Jan finished her career proudly as a supervisor and investigator for the Ontario SPCA. She was also a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion in Lefroy, Ontario for many years.

At Jan’s request no service will be held.

A special thank you to the medical team at Matthew’s Memorial Hospital on St. Joseph’s Island; homecare nurse, Amy; and the Sault Ste. Marie paramedics for their exceptional care and concern.

Memorial donations in Jan’s name can be made to the Ontario SPCA or the Royal Canadian Legion.

Arrangements entrusted to O’Sullivan Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 215 St. James St, 705-759-8456.
