Obituary for Jim Henderson

Peacefully at Algoma Residential Community Hospice on Monday February 13th, 2023, at the age of 86 after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. We are at peace knowing that he is reunited with the love of his life Emma, right on time for Valentine’s Day. Loving father of Brian Henderson and Donna Coulter (Doug). Much adored Papa to his cherished granddaughters Taryn (Anthony) and Riley (Isaac). Welcomed to heaven by his parents James and Ellen Henderson. Loving brother to the late Ron Henderson (Lucille), the late Terry Henderson (Marlene), Joan Dempsey (Wayne), the late Jean Crouse (late Dave), and Jane Colameco (Tony). Beloved uncle and grand uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Jim was a strong man of faith and family meant everything to him. Along with working as a chemist for over 34 years at Algoma Steel, Jim was an avid sports enthusiast who excelled at all of them. Especially golf, where he was a member of the Sault Golf Club for 46 years often shooting his age. He was a dear friend to all he knew and loved to make them laugh. We will miss the twinkle in his eyes and his great big smile.

Visitation will be held at St. Jerome’s Church (26 Carmel Rd, SSM) on Friday, February 17th, 2023, from 12:00pm until the time of the Memorial Mass at 1:00pm with Father Alex officiating.

The family would like to thank the Sault Area Hospital, the 3B nursing staff, the incredible team of palliative doctors, especially Dr. Apostle for the care and compassion given to him in his final days. A special thank you to the extraordinary staff at ARCH. You are all truly angels on Earth. The kindness and care you gave to Jim over his 2 months stay will never be forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, donations to ARCH (payable online https://www.archhospice.ca/donate or by cheque) would be appreciated.
