Obituary for Helen Pilgrim
PILGRIM, Helen Elizabeth (April 21, 1934 - October 23, 2023)
We are saddened to announce the passing of Helen this past Monday at the Sault Area Hospital.
Predeceased by her husband of almost 30 years, Silvano Moschella. Loving mother of her sons Michael (Lori), Anthony ‘Tony’, Mark, and Daniel Stortini. She will be missed by her grandchildren; Benjamin, Christine, Liza, Hannah, Ray and Eric Stortini, and great- grandchildren Louna and Stelo Stortini. Helen was predeceased by her parents Liza (Elizabeth) Kulha and Benjamin Harry Pilgrim and her sister Benita (Bunny) Rope. She is survived by her brother John (Uncle Jack) and Carol Pilgrim. Aunt Helen also leaves behind her nieces Laurie, Marnie, Patty, Beth, and nephew Matthew. She will be also dearly missed by Silvano's family; Monica Paulino, Mario and Antonietta Moschello and her very dear and longtime friends Barbara Graco and Eilene Harris. Aunt Helen also leaves behind her nieces Laurie, Marnie, Patty, Beth, Carla (Lou) Buffone, Brenda Paciocco, the late Elaine Stortini Cleminson (Scott) and nephews Matthew Pilgrim, Glen Stortini, Dennis Stortini, and John Paul Paciocco (Cathy).
Helen's long and varied career and achievements include being the 1st and founding President of the local John Howard Society, Human rights activist, talk show radio host, artist, musician, promoter of both art and performing arts, playwright, politician (elected trustee to the local board of education), Art gallery owner (Pollyanna Gallery). She was proud to showcase the talents and works of renowned artists such as Norval Morrisseau, good friend Cecil Youngfox, Robert Carmichael etc. Helen and Silvano operated successful Antique/collectible shops both locally and in southern Ontario.
Helen's family wishes to extend sincere thanks and appreciation to the efforts and professionalism of Dr. Bowen and the staff of C305 and B302 at the Sault Area Hospital along with the entire staff of the F. J. Davey Home.
As per Helen's wishes, her family will be arranging a private internment in the spring of 2024.
Memorial donations may be made to the C.N.I.B. (Canadian National Institute for the Blind). Payable by cheque or online.
