Obituary

Passed away peacefully at Sault Area Hospital on October 10, 2020, at the age of 62. Predeceased by his loving parents, Earl and Shirley La Rocque of Elliot Lake, Ontario. Brother of Greg La Rocque of Denver, Colorado and Colleen Peacock of Bedford, Nova Scotia. Uncle to Matt & Dillion La Rocque and Sarah & Evan Peacock.

Grant spent the first half of his life in Elliot Lake, Ontario where he especially enjoyed boating, fishing, and hiking. Summer vacations to Ottawa and Kemptville to visit cousins and grandparents were the highlight of the year with lots of mini-putt, fishing, and bike riding.
The last 30 years were spent in the Soo at various Community Living Algoma facilities with superlative, caring and loving staff that made Grant feel like part of a family. Pizza and chicken wing parties were always enjoyed by clients and staff alike. Going to the Soo Greyhound Hockey games and Tim Hortons on way back made for a big evening, and staff were always glad to accommodate.

Thank you to Sault Area Hospital doctors, nurses & caregivers. All the staff at Community Living Algoma, Breton Road, Lewis Road Upstairs. Over the past years Grant’s caring staff included: Maureen, Sandra, Tamira, Loraina, Christina, Mark, Dan, Jessica, Mike and Rick as well as many others. A special thank you to Sierra Chambers who spent time with Grant in his final hours and offered her heartfelt love and allowed us to say a final goodbye via phone call.

Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Living Algoma SSM. Arrangements entrusted to O’Sullivan Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 215 St. James St, 705-759-8456.
