Obituary for Gordon Edward Hacker

HACKER, Gordon E.

Gordon Hacker of Bruce Mines near Leeburn, Ontario, Canada, formerly of Pinconning and Ewen, MI; passed away on January 19, 2021, at the age of 70. He was born January 1, 1951 in Bay City, MI to M. Barbara Sturm and Gordon L. Hacker, both of whom preceded him in death. Dear Brother of Trish (John) Hennig, Tom (Bonnie) Hacker, all of Ortonville, MI and Laura “Lauren” Hacker McGarry (fiancé Randy Miller) of Pendleton, SC. Uncle of Kassie and Olivia Hennig, and Tessa Hacker. Gordon excelled in sports in High School, participating in football as a center, and baseball as a pitcher all four years of high school in Pinconning, MI. Gordon farmed most of his life, and owned farms in Ewen, MI and then Bruce Mines, Ontario, having moved with his parents to Bruce Mines in 2000. He was a member of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture, Algoma Cattlemen Association, Beef Farmers of Ontario, OPHIR Volunteer Department, Sault Astronomy Club and at one time taught Astronomy at Soo College. As a boy he painted the constellations with luminous paint on the ceiling of his childhood bedroom. He was a voracious reader and had a unique dry sense of humor. He had a profound love for animals and nature, and was extremely knowledgeable about science and history and many other subjects. He was much loved and will be very much missed by family and friends. Gordon spent many of his last months in the hospital, and was helped immeasurably by his friends and neighbors in Bruce Mines, who have helped him with his farms and personal needs. Cremation has taken place, with a celebration of life at a later date.
