Obituary for Gerald James Kirk
KIRK, Gerald James —
Gerald “Gerry”, age 51, passed away peacefully at the Sault Area Hospital on January 21, 2023, after being diagnosed with a brain tumour in late November, 2022. Cherished husband of Rowena (nee Giesbrecht) and loving father to Malia, David and Graham. Son of the late Florence and Arnold Kirk and brother of Mark (Marichu). Gerry will be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephew.
Many years of Gerry’s career were spent travelling as a Project Management Consultant and, in more recent years, he focused on entrepreneurship and launched multiple innovative businesses. He loved to stay active and enjoyed doing CrossFit, playing ultimate frisbee, curling, and going on many biking and hiking adventures with friends and family. Always pursuing his passions, he left us with the words, “you have to assume that everything is possible.”
The family would like to thank all the nurses and doctors at the Sault Area Hospital who provided exceptional and compassionate care to Gerry, especially Dr. Dawson, Dr. Bowen, Dr. McLean, Dr. Sharpe, Dr. Apostle, and Dr. Buehner.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation at The Summit Community Church (424 Second Line E., Sault Ste. Marie) on Sunday, February 5, 2023, from 5:00pm. until the time of the Celebration of Life service at 7:00p.m. In accordance with Gerry’s wishes, for those attending the visitation and/or service, please feel free to wear colourful attire and be prepared to both celebrate his life as well as mourn his passing.
Memorial donations can be made to Algoma Regional Community Hospice (ARCH), Mennonite Central Committee or Jumpstart (payable by cheque or online, following the appropriate links below).
