Obituary

VECCHIO, Francesca

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother Francesca Vecchio, on Monday June 1, 2020 at the F. J. Davey Home.

Loving mother of Rose Medaglia (Ralph), Pina Cupello (Jeff ) and Frank Cupello (Angela). Nanna of Rosalynn Pyette (Ryan), Melissa Santa Maria (Angelo), Frank Medaglia (Heather), Diana Pratt (Michael), Andrew Lucas, Cameron Cupello and Sara Cupello. Caring great grandmother Nanna Franca, of Jonah Santa Maria, Jude Santa Maria, William Pyette, Lillian Rose Pyette, Leonardo Medaglia, and Elle Rose Pratt. Dear sister of Linda Cupello, Martino Blonda (Lina) and Orlando Blonda (Judy). Predeceased by her parents Carmine Ianni and Michelina Blonda.

Franca lived for her children. They were always the sole focus of her life and nothing or no one would ever take priority over her children’s happiness. She courageously endured all the struggles and challenges that went along with raising three children as a single mother, yet she never complained, and never made her children want for anything. As a young woman, she was stricken with many chronic health issues that only worsened as she got older, and through it all her faith was always her anchor. It was the one thing she consistently turned to when she needed clarity and guidance; it was what helped her remain strong, selfless and caring right to the end.

When her grandchildren and great grandchildren came along, this brought a whole new level of unconditional love to her life. She adored each one with all her heart. She would talk so proudly about them to anyone who would listen, and she took such joy snuggling them in her arms, witnessing their milestones and just being a part of their lives.

In her later years, she enjoyed spending time and travelling with her family. The memories we have of trips with her to Las Vegas, Disney World, Niagara Falls, Indian River and Florida are ones that we will always treasure. It was so heartwarming to experience these times with her and seeing the excitement in her eyes, and we felt so humbled when she would fondly express how happy she was to be sharing these moments with us.

Franca also made many friends in her lifetime. People were always drawn to her warm smile and giving nature, and it was no exception when she went to reside at the Davey Home. Not a day went by when a nurse, support worker or one of the residents wouldn’t comment on how much they loved her. It was no wonder though; each time she walked to and from the dining room, she would stop and say hello to everyone and ask how they were doing. The trek to her table was always a social event. Her very dear friend Louise would always call her “my very special angel”. And that, she truly was!

We want to extend our sincere thanks to all the staff at the F. J. Davey Home for their unrelenting care and support throughout her three year stay and especially in her last days. Franca loved each one of them like her own family. Our heartfelt thanks also go out to Father Alex from St. Gerard Majella Church who remotely and yet with great compassion performed the last rights as she neared the end.

In light of all this, we ask that in lieu of flowers, please consider, if you so wish, donations in Franca’s memory, to the F.J. Davey Home or St. Gerard Majella Church.

Due to current social restrictions, a private family service will be held with Father Alex Saurianthadathil officiating. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Arrangements entrusted to O’Sullivan Funeral Home and Cremation Centre (215 St. James St., Sault Ste Marie, P6A 1P7 705-759-8456).
