Obituary for Elvin Elmer Sawatzky
SAWATZKY, Elvin Elmer April 28, 1936-July 14, 2020
Elvin always said he despised cats. We secretly believe it is because he was one. He was determined, (and succeeded) to use all 9 of his lives!! After more than 2 years of suffering from vascular dementia, while listening to Darlene sing his favourite songs, holding his hand and being strong for us all; our father, grandfather, brother and uncle, took his last breath and gave up the good fight at the age of 84. He leaves behind his first love Rosemary and his children; Heather, Elvin (Zelda), Ken (Debbie), Jerry, Darlene (Jesse) and Melinda (Stef). Stepfather to Steven and Dawn (Tony). Elvin went to join his parents Gerhard (George) Sawatzky and Sara Wiebe. Elvin is predeceased by many siblings, survived by Ben (Ros), Jake (Elaine), Corey (Lynn), Mary-Ann (Andre), Abe and Chuck Ferris, his honorary brother. Special thank you to the nurses and staff at Maple View, for the care provided when we couldn't be there. An extra special thank you to Jenn, Elvin's great-niece, your love and support during dad's illness, is immeasurable. You could always count on Dad for a "you want to hear something stupid?" story, or a joke about Little Johnny! He was loved by many. Dad, you loved hard and weren't afraid to show it. Your humour, your smile, but most of all you, will be missed. Rest easy and fly with the angels. A Celebration of Elvin’s Life will be held on Saturday July 18, 2020 from 4-7pm outside at 10 Pretoria Hill. Please remember to keep social distancing in mind while attending.
