Obituary for Dolores 'Dee' Tyler (nee Gallant)

TYLER, Dolores (Dee) Elizabeth (nee Gallant)

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our mom, Dee Tyler, at Van Daele Manor in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario on September 7, 2022, in her 87th year.

Loving mother of Mitchell (Denise) of London, ON, Melanie (Silvano) of Sault Ste. Marie, ON and Tim (Jennifer) of London, ON. Proud grandmother of six grandchildren (Christian, Rhys, Rachel, Erik, Griffin and Kempton) and one great grandchild (Hudson).

Our mom, like her mother before her, was a creative person and a tireless worker. She was an expert knitter and made beautiful afghans, baby sweaters and mittens. Dee shared her time and skills in the community through the years. She was a member of the Honour Roll of women involved in the building of the Pee Wee Arena. As a 1970’s hockey mom, each new season she would knit toques in team colours for the players on her sons' hockey teams and often included miniature toques for parents to pin on their jackets to support the team.

Dee was well known in the community for her giving nature. She loved to share her time as a volunteer with groups such as the Sault Symphony and the Sault Model Railroad Club as much as she loved to share her possessions with anyone in need with whom she came in contact. In her later years she enjoyed a community of friends in the Station Mall; often enjoying coffee, scratch tickets and friendly conversations in the food court.

Our mom was a true original and was a great lover of music. She was extremely proud of the artistic pursuits of her children from their first performances with the Tarentorus Public School and Bawating High School Bands to their later work as professional musicians. She loved all genres of music and was even known to croon out a heartfelt "Blueberry Hill" on karaoke nights during her time living in Toronto.

A special thank you goes to Susan and Claude Cormier who remained Dee's closest friends right to the end of her life. A heartfelt thank you goes to the staff, in particular the nurses and PSWs of the 3rd floor at Van Daele Manor, for their love and dedication to Dee and her fellow residents.

A celebration of Dee's life is planned for some time this fall with details to be announced at a later date.
