Passed away peacefully at ARCH on Sunday October 6, 2019 at the age of 61. Survived by her adoring husband, Larry Cachagee. Mother of Matthew McLeod (Silvie Dubreuil), Mark McLeod (Melodie General), Vanessa Kelly, Cayne Cachagee, Caleb Cachagee and Desi Bean. Grandmother of Marek Mcleod, Mavrek McLeod, Matias McLeod and Ariston Stewart. Daughter of the late Jean Bobiwash-Chevrier and Donald Chevrier. Sister to Katherine Erdman, Jennifer Chevrier, Marty Chevrier and Karen Chevrier. Aunt to Candice, Jennifer, Tiffinee, Kristina, Vincent, Michael, Deanna, Dylan, Travis, Isiah, Luke, Michael and Noah. She will be remembered by her in laws, Michael Cachagee (Elaine Cachagee), late Marlene Cachagee, Dean Cachagee (Joan), Karen Dubois (Fred), Lisa Cachagee (Rob), Michael Cachagee and Lavinna Pemmican.
Claudette had many life accomplishments which impacted thousands of people across this country which include, served as a board member for Neech-Ke-When Homes Inc, past chairperson for Algoma Distract Housing Authority, Board of Governors for Algoma University, past president of Indian Friendship Centre in Sault Ste. Marie, past board member for Waabinog Head Start and board member of the Sault Area Hospital. She worked as a criminal court worker for IFC, a special assistant to the minster, Ron Irwin, for Ministry of Indian Affairs in Parliament. She also a family support worker for Kunuwanimano Child and Family Services. She worked for children of Shinwauk at Algoma University. She was a mental health support worker/regional coordinator for Ontario Indian Residential School Support Services. She also played a key role in the healing of many residential school survivors. She was a lead coordinator for The Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. She was instrumental in the planning and development of the Bawating Urban Indigenous Hub. Lastly, she was a certified medicine wheel teacher, 1 of 3 in Canada. With everything said above, she was also a friend and influencer to many generations to come.
Chi-Miigwetch to Dr. Kargbo, Dr. Wilson, nurse Susan, PSW Jammie and to the staff at ARCH for their care and compassion. She will be missed by her BFF Ann Seymour (Johns), Peter Migwans, Willard Pine and Saul & Elsie Day. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday October 9, 2019 from 1:30-5:00 p.m. at Garden River First Nation Community Hall, Garden River, Ontario, Highway 17B. In lie of flowers, donations may be made to the Charlie Hunter Scholarship Fund (cheque payable to OIRSSS).
