Obituary for Carmen Alice Ryan (Lamothe)

RYAN, Carmen –

It is with great sadness that we announce Carmen’s passing on August 1, 2023, in her 88th year. Devoted and loving wife to Joe (Buddy) for 64 years. Cherished mother of Daniel, Carole (Donald) Benoit and Robert (Sherry). Adoring mémère to Chantal (Amolak), Rachelle (E.J.), Monique (Marco), Nolan (Kelsie), Matthew, Danny (Kiersten), Charmaine (Josh) and Nicole (Jacob). Great grandma to Kingston, Brooklyn, Maverick, Dallas, Jaeger, Owen, Alicia, Jayda, Jayce, the late Ariel, Lilly and one due this October. Sister to the late Madeleine (late Yvon), late Pierrette (Roland), late Edmond (late Sadie), late André and the late Aurèle (late Marion and the late Jean). Sister-in-law to Patsy (late Leo, late Bonfield), Lillian (late Jimmy), Teresa (Art), Billy (Bonnie), Donna (Eddy), Joyce (Leo), Rita (Willie), Hughie (Liz) and the late Connie (Jesse). Aunt to several nieces and nephews and friend to many who will miss her dearly.

Carmen was born to the late Laurence and Arthur Lamothe in Weyburn Ontario. The family soon moved to Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec before finally settling in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario in the early 1950’s. Carmen met the love of her life Buddy, while working at Roda Veneer Mill. They were soon married and began raising their family.

Mom was a full-time homemaker and always had delicious home cooked meals at the ready. She was also a baker extraordinaire. She was my go-to when I or my children struggled with French verbs. She could also explain fractions to anyone. She could easily have been a schoolteacher. Her fashion sense was impeccable, and she always had a seamstress on speed dial. She had a joie de vivre and could crack me up with her silly antics and ramblings. She was beautiful inside and out. Mom was also a devout Roman Catholic all her life and her faith in God kept her and our family rooted in the faith. She cared deeply for her family and prayed incessantly for them.

Much gratitude to all her caregivers at Algoma Manor and the F. J. Davey Home.

Family and friends are invited to join us in a Memorial Mass on Saturday September 9, 2023, at 11:00am at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church
(114 MacDonald Ave.) A luncheon will follow in the church hall. Visit www.osullivanfuneralhome.com. to leave condolences for the family. Arrangements entrusted to O’Sullivan Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 215 St. James St, 705-759-8456.

Je t’aimerais toujours Maman, jusqu à la fin de mes jours.
