Obituary for Bente Nielsen

Bente passed away peacefully at the Sault Area Hospital with her family by her side on Monday November 28, 2022, at the age of 86.
Beloved wife of 65 years to Verner Nielsen, mother to Elizabeth Hansson, Eileen, Stephen (Natalie), Tommy (Claudine). Loving Mormor and FaMor to Christepher (Heather), Matt Karwaski (Kerri), Mike, Isaiah, Mitch (Raija), Kirsten (Chris), Tasheena, Sierra, Brandon (Sarah), Elijah, Joshua (Sydney), Nik and Liam. Great-Grandmother to Langdon, Nevaeh, Eliana, Reese, Lawson, Brooklynn, Nakoma and Althea. Survived by her brother Lars Rasmussen (Vita) of Denmark. Predeceased by her parents Magnelina and Borge Rasmussen and brother Kurt Rasmussen (Inger). She will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Bente was born in Fredericia, Denmark where she lived until she married and immigrated to Canada in 1957 at the age of 21. Sault Ste Marie became her home where she raised her family with Verner.
Bente was always sweet and thoughtful, her infectious laughter warmed your heart and made you smile. She enjoyed having fun, raising her children and loved having them around. She had a real knack for knitting, crocheting, baking and really enjoyed $1.44 days and sidewalk sales. She spent many summers camping with her children, and once spent more time than she wanted inside the tent due to a snake being outside.
As her children grew older, Bente began working at the General and Plummer hospitals in the housekeeping department where she retired in 1997. Once retired, Bente was able to travel more and spend time with her brother and family in Denmark. In most recent years, Bente received visits from her adored nieces Maria and Christina from Sweden. Followed by this past summer, a memorable and special visit from her Denmark family, Lars (Vita), Nephew Claus Rasmussen (Merete) along with children Kamma, Tore and Vigga. Niece Dorte Anderson (Kristian) along with children Rasmus, Johanne and Mads.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Cedarwood Lodge for all the care and compassion given to Mom.
A private family service will be held at O’Sullivan Funeral Home on Tuesday December 6, 2022. In lieu of flowers, donations to Tracy’s Dream http://www.tracysdream.com/ or Sault Area Hospital Foundation Mental Health & Addictions Fund (payable online or by cheque) would be appreciated.
