Obituary for Jurgis Valas

In his 100th year, Jurgis Valas passed away at the Sault Area Hospital surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday March 7, 2017. Lovingly remembered by his son Romas Valavickas (Regina). Grandfather of Egle Valavickaite and Ziluinas Valavickas (Daiva). Great grandfather of Adas Valavickas and Milda Valavickaite and great great grandfather of Nojus Ciruinskas. George was like an uncle to Ruth Galinis (Brian Read) and her children Elizabeth MacKay Romani (Matt) and Robert MacKay (Britney). George loved his family in Lithuania and they loved him. He left Marijampole Lithuania and landed in Halifax on July 29, 1947. He then made the 3 day train ride to Magpie, where he started a career in logging. George then went to work at Algoma Steel and retired in 1982. He will be missed by his neighbours, swimming friends at the Water Tower Inn and his coffee buddies. Thank you to the Doctor’s and nursing staff at the Sault Area Hospital 3C. Family and friends are invited to call at O’Sullivan Funeral Home and Cremation Centre (215 St. James Street) on Friday March 10, 2017 from 9:30am-11:30am. Funeral Mass to be held at Precious Blood Cathedral at 12:00pm with Father Hamish Currie officiating. Interment in Holy Sepulchre to follow. Donations to the Sault Area Hospital or the charity of choice would be appreciated.
